The true war has never been one waged by droids or warships or soldiers,
They are but crude matter
Obstacles against which we test ourselves
The true war is waged in the hearts of all living things
Against our own natures
Light
or Dark

The Jedi

There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
There is no chaos, there is harmony.
There is no death, there is the Force.

The Jedi used to be the largest monastic order of Force Users in the galaxy. By the words of their teachings, they are a peaceful order seeking nothing more than harmony with the galaxy and the Force. They view the Force as a living thing that users must strive to be in balance with. They claim a stance of general nonviolence whenever possible, but train their followers as warriors nonetheless. They have fought a silent, existential conflict against the Sith ever since the formation of the Sith. The Jedi are, at their core, a religious belief system that views the Force with reverence.

Their leadership is comprised of a council of Jedi Masters, the leader of whom is called the Grandmaster. Council positions and duties vary by era, but typically there are no more than twelve council members. The current Jedi council consists of the following:

Kalla Zatoq - Grandmaster, alive, Dantooine.
Kavar - Councilmember, alive, in hiding.
Zez-Kai Ell - Councilmember, alive, in hiding.
Lonna Vash - Councilmember, alive, in hiding.
Vrook Lamar - Councilmember, alive, Dantooine.

Around fifty years ago, the Jedi Knight Exar Kun led a faction of Jedi away from the order to study old Sith holocrons on Korriban. This led to the foundation of a new Sith Empire under his leadership, the execution of the supreme chancellor, and a war fought between the Jedi and the Sith for many years. The Jedi ultimately achieved victory over this Sith Empire and Exar Kun, but this conflict fundamentally changed the Jedi's mindset toward the Sith and the greater galaxy as a whole. Seeking to correct the failures that led to Exar Kun's betrayal of all he was raised to believe, the Jedi began cracking down on internal beliefs, restricting their padawans, and increasing in paranoia altogether.

Then, with the advent of the Mandalorian conflict, the Jedi council urged nonviolence and forbade any of their order from joining the Republic. They knew that if any Jedi joined the war then the inevitable battles and deaths would corrupt them, even if their intentions were good. They were right. Revan and Malak, two Jedi Knights, defied the orders of the Council and joined the Mandalorian conflict. Spurred on by the defection of Revan, Malak, and a few Knights who followed them, many Jedi Masters killed their apprentices in what would become known as the "Padawan Massacre."

Spurred on by the deaths of their fellows, more than eighty percent of the remaining Knights and Padawans defected from the Jedi Order and joined Revan in the war. They would become known as the Revanchists. Once the war was over, a single Revanchist returned to the council to face judgment for her part in the war. For her attempt at repentance, her connection to the Force was severed. Such harsh punishment prompted all remaining Revanchists to stay away from the order and continue to follow Revan.

When Revan returned from an excursion to the outer rim, he returned as the new Dark Lord of the Sith, bringing forth the Jedi Order's worst fears. A new Exar Kun, a new war. One could say the Jedi created their dark future, or one could say it was always destined to be. Either way, the Jedi Order has been nearly wiped out by the Revanchists and revitalized Sith Order, numbering less than a hundred active Jedi across the galaxy. Most live in hiding from Revan's Jedi Hunters, fearing to stretch out even the most gentlest touch to help the galaxy, lest their kindness be repaid with death.

The Sith

Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.

The Sith, unlike the Jedi, find their history bathed in the blood of conflict and their enemies. Originally, the Sith were known as Sith'ari, literally Lord of Sith, because the people they ruled over were known as 'Sith.' But that time has long passed. The species of Sith, as with so many species in the galaxy, have been extinct for thousands of years. But their legacy, their beliefs, live on in the Sith of today.

An order of warriors, the Sith believe the Force is a tool to be manipulated and utilized for personal gain. They will destroy their enemies, harm anyone who gets in their way, and justify any mean if it furthers their walk on the path to power. Fueled by their passions, they are formidable foes and capable killers. While there are many dark Jedi in the galaxy today, the true Sith define themselves as completely separate from anyone raised in a temple. Usually trained in groups, Sith believe the ultimate proof of power is to whittle down a group of apprentices to a single, powerful being, who must then kill his master in order to complete his training.

Sith leadership consists of a single Dark Lord and his apprentice, below him are all other Sith, Masters, Warriors, and Apprentices alike must all bend the knee to the Dark Lord. The current Dark Lord is Revan, and his apprentice is Malak.

Devastated from the loss at the hands of the Jedi during the conflict with Exar Kun, the Sith laid in wait on their stronghold worlds until a new leader, strong enough to claim their loyalty, could rise from within their ranks. To their surprise, the next Dark Lord rose from the ranks of the Jedi. While many Sith distrust and dislike Lord Revan for his background, believing him to not be a 'true Sith,' no one voices their opinion. Revan's power is so immense that even thinking of betrayal in his presence is enough to earn death by his hand.

Currently, the Sith number in the thousands. At Revan's direction, they send out masters to battlefronts to convert viable Sith soldiers from within the army's ranks to apprentices who may prove themselves on the battlefield. While skirmishing within ranks is encouraged in the reserve, any Sith found to be skirmishing amongst themselves on the frontline are often put down by Revanchist generals. If a Sith proves exceptionally troublesome, Revan often quietly destroys them from within, either by sending them on suicide missions or by sending his Jedi Hunters to eliminate them.

While the Sith are enjoying a resurgence of power and strength, they long for the day when not only do they rule the galaxy, but a True Sith rises from within their ranks to destroy the Dark Lord.
